I've started a public map on Google called "BC Ride to Conquer Cancer Training Routes". If you have a Google account, you are free to add your favorite training route to the map so that everyone can find them.
As I said before, very cool. Nice to see different routes starting to pop up on the map. I assume that you're based in Surrey? Looks like you've got a nice variety of routes. If you ever put together a group ride, let me know.
Sorry I don't know how to add these 3 routes to the map! Maybe someone else can do it for me...There are some great training rides on the dyke trails (mostly hard packed gravel/dirt) in Ladner/Tsawwassen/Richmond. No hills!
1) Start on the trail at the washroom area at Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay Park in Tsawwassen, then right onto Beach Grove Rd. parallel the water through a few blocks of residential area and then right onto the dyke again. About 20Km one way. Spectacular ocean view of Mt. Baker, eagles, herons, farm land etc.
2) Start at Ferry Road in Ladner and hook onto the Millenium Trail at the Marina at the north end. Cycle to Deas Island Park (and around the Park for a scenic view of the Fraser River and Deas Slough), then out the park entrance turn right (south) onto River Road and left at the first street 65B Ave which takes you onto 64th Street. There is a pedestrian/cow tunnel under Hwy 99, cycle all the way down 64th to the Dyke, turn right, cycle through Beach Grove and back onto the dyke to Centennial Beach. Continue heading south and meander around onto Boundary Bay road to 12th Ave....great lunch stop at Petra's at 56th Ave., right at 53 A. At the end of the road is a bike route through the park to 52nd St, left at 28th Ave...zig zag to 34th St, right onto River Road (or left to Brunswick Point along Dyke and back), left over bridge to Westham Island. Visit Reifel Bird sanctuary and gift store and/or stop at the Westham Island Winery and gift store. Head back into Ladner along River Road West to Ferry Road. About 55+ km round trip.
3) The Richmond Dyke from Woodwards Landing at the south end of No 5 Rd (head straight at Finn Slough if you want to stay on the trail) through the scenic fishing village of Steveston, around the tip of Gary Point Park, continue on the dyke to Capstan Way. Estimated 50 Km? round trip.
Enjoy!
