Hi Anna -

holding pub nights works fairly well - they are fairly low risk and I generally come away with about $1000. If you get a couple of good friends to sell tickets to their friends you extend your fundraising pool a bunch

Break it down into smaller pieces - you need to raise ~$30/day to reach your goal. So look for ways to bring in a few dollars here and there. I use facebook extensively for this. It's a great way to nag at your friends and family who don't live nearby

Other ideas...
- Work bake sale
- Raffle
- 50/50 at work or similar
- hot dog day (brings in about $500)

a weird one I do is pet sitting for cancer. I post it up on Craigslist, bring peoples pups into my home while they are away and they donate directly to my ride.

What are pub nights?  How do I go about it?  What is involved?

A bottle drive is a little dirty but easy and people are usually happy to give you their bottles instead of cash. We sent out 300 flyers in a rural area which was a lot of travelling and had a date and time for people to leave their bottles at the end of their driveway and phone # to call and we received about 15 calls and picked up about $500. Doing another tomorrow.

pub nights -

Go to your local pub and ask them if they can help you with your fundraising - most already do this. They will offer something along the lines of a burger and a beer for $7 and you sell the tickets for what ever price you think will work (I usually do 15)

Then go sell tickets - fill the place up. The key is to also have other things for your guests to spend money on while they are there - 50/50 draw, raffle, toonie toss all work well.

Good luck!

You can also try to get "corporate sponsors". You just have to print off a letter indicating what you are doing and when (I believe they have one on the site) and go into stores (Black's photography, Thrifty's, small sport stores, etc) and ask to speak to the manager about a corporate donation. Typically they give about $100-250 a shot.

Good luck.
