How long/or dificult is it to cross the border with passport and PR card? Anything I can do to prepare to speed up process? What is this Nexus card?

I am no expert in this and suggest if you have any questions that you make a call to the border services.

What I can tell you, however, is that this weekend I went on a training ride that crossed the border at the Truck Crossing which is the same one the RTCC is using this year.  One of my friends has a landed immigrant card and passport from another country.  It was no longer or more complicated for him to cross than for me.

It is my understanding that given the number of riders being processed it is a pretty quick and efficient system that they have for getting us through (although it will still take a couple of hours I hear).

I should also add that if you read through the event guide (online in your participant centre) there is some mention of additional paperwork for non-residents. I have no idea what that is about but it may be worth checking out.

The Nexus card is a "trusted traveller" document - although the Americans especially still ask questions about where you're going and the like, it does speed up the process.

http://www.getnexus.com for more info about eligibility and costing.

As for crossing without Nexus, the Americans have now implemented an additional Visa Waiver fee (about $10, I think) for citizens of some countries.  I would visit the US Customs & Immigration web site to learn more about what you would need to cross, since rules differ depending on your home country.

Overall though, the process is generally simple when you're cycling, especially if crossing en-masse in events such as the RTCC.  It's just a little longer.

Me?  I got Nexus, not just for this event but because I didn't want to have to take my passport with me whenever I went cycling over the line.

I read that too. I am planning to go to the border to get info and pick up these forms. Just to be prepared!
