Adjusting Front Derailleur

So the question that I had was is adjusting the front derailleur on a road bike worth the challenge if I only have one season of cycling underneath my belt? Or should I make an appointment with my friends at the local bike shop to get it adjusted?

If you are a newbie why not go on-line, search the topic and try to teach yourself how to tweak the bike. There are mechanic course one can take. But in the end, you will want your bike tuned up once before training and once before the Ride, just to be safe.

If you are mechanically inclined I would try adjusting it myself so that if you are out on the road and things are rubbing you know how to adjust it.

My favorite on-line bike repair site is Park Tools. They have a pretty full set of instructions for just about any adjustment.

Having said this I will be taking my bike to the shop for a full checkup before the ride!

Cheers
Doug
