My teammates and I are considering biking out to Horseshoe Bay and back as a part of our training ride. We've been trying to find a route that's +60KM and Horseshoe Bay seems to be a perfect fit. So far we've only biked within Vancouver and out to Steveston (round trip for that route is only 44km). We feel we need to venture outside of Vancouver/Richmond area in order to be able to increase our mileage - I sure wouldn't want to bike to Pacific Spirit Park and back 3 times to get my 60KM! I am not too familiar with the bike routes outside of Vancouver - I have looked at the maps but I would like opinions from other cyclists who have personally tried out the routes themselves.
I should also add that half of us are pretty new at cycling or don't cycle regularly until recently. We know how to ride a bike but we are not too comfortable riding in heavy traffic. I'm hoping someone here would be able to suggest a safe route with little traffic and not too many steep hills out to Horseshoe Bay and back. We also prefer to have traffic light or 4-way stop at any somewhat major/slightly busy intersections that we may need to cross.
