Aside from a 45 min bike ride last week, I haven't done any riding in a good long time. I registered yesterday and if the cause doesn't get me pumped I don't know what will. I am determined to start training and stick with it. With stanley park just around the corner and ubc not too far off, I really don't have any excuse not to.
So, as of Tuesday January 20th I will be starting my training. I live in Yaletown and if anyone else in the area would like to join me, please do. If we can get enough of a group together, we can all push each other to attend...heck all we need is two for encouragement. And if it doesn't work out with me, then hopefully, through this, you can pair up with someone else in your neighbourhood.
What an experience! Good luck EVERYONE! And congratulations for signing up to something so amazing.
Hi Kathryn! I am up in Whistler but if I ever find myself in Vancouver I will definately contact you to go for a ride. I am a newbie too, but it would be great to do a UBC ride from Yaletown. Best of luck with training!
Hey Kathryn, I'm looking for somebody to start training with.....not sure what your time you're thinking tomorrow...probably more a weekend hook up for me to be honest. Cheers Steve
I'd like to hook up with someone to train with as well. I live in the Westend and will look to start this weekend (Saturday). Let me know what time works, and this goes for anyone else looking for mutual support :)
Im also interested in getting together with some people for training rides. I live in Kitsilano and have found a nice route along the beach, around UBC and then up SW Marine. Im interested in checking out some new routes though and meeting some new people so give me a shout! I work shift work so I am randomly available weekends and weekdays. Any other weekday riders out there? Looking forward to getting together! Send me an email at jennifer_mcmahon5@hotmail.com. Thanks!
Hi Steve, Richard and Jenn.... Thanks for responding.
I can do weekends but I work Saturdays until about 4:30 and Sundays I have off. But that doesn't mean you all can't go out on Saturdays. We can all set something up for this coming Sunday???
Not too sure about this Sunday. I've been off the bike for the better part of 4 years so I'm planning on getting out for a couple of laps around Stanley Park Saturday afternoon :) Build on it from there.
What is everyone else thinking regarding distance and location of rides?
I am the captain for the OvCaRe team and live in the Vancouver Westside area. We will be going out for organized training rides every Sunday come March. We'll also be doing a couple of spin classes in February to get our bike legs on. Please join the team! It's a great way to keep motivated and we'll have plenty of organized rides and strategy meetings for fundraising in the months to come. My goal is for each of my riders to meet their fundraising objective and to feel 100% confident in their ability to ride the distance come June. Email me at ngale<at>bccancer.bc.ca for the team password and with any questions you might have. If you've already registered as an individual, don't worry, you can still join a team with a simple phone call to the Ride to Conquer Cancer office.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I'll be able to get out for a ride this Saturday. If anyone would like to join me, let me know. I was thinking of a couple laps around Stanley Park on the road.
Unfortunately I can't do Saturdays, but if you're ever up for a Sunday ride please email me at yellow_moth@hotmail.com (I check that one a little more often) and Stanley Park is very much my level.... for now
Hi my name is Paul, myself and a fellow rider , Julie, have been training for the last couple of weeks on Wednesday nights and Saturday Mornings. We leave from 4th and yew and we ride for about 30 to 40 km's averaging about 20km/hour to ease back into the bike season. If anyone is interested in join us feel free to email me for more info. ppedersen19@hotmail.com
I also live in the kits area ( just off the endowment lands at UBC), and I would definitely be up for some beginner rides to break the ice. If anyone is organizing a ride in that area, my email is tierneymilne@me.com.
Hi guys - I'm in the same shoes as Kathryn was in her first post. I have pulled out week of hour long rides but I'm in need of some people to ride with and learn from....
I live out in the tricities but work near VGH, I can bring my bike with me or drive down for training ... I just need help!
aimeejewell@shaw.ca
or add me to facebook - I have a group started "Strength In Numbers - The Ride to Conquer Cancer"
I also need advice on what type of bike to buy - ahhh so much to learn!
Another "returning" rider here who needs to reaquaint himself with the bike seat and pedals. Looking for traiinng rides from the west side in the early evening or on weekends. This ride to Seattle sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun and with some training maybe not too painful. Thank goodness for the free massages at the half way point. E-mail is gardenparty@telus.net.
Richard, I should be getting my bike out of the shop today - if everything checks out I'll look for you at Stanley Park, since that was my plan too. I'll be on an ugly purple mountain bike (for real).
