This ride is Sunday, May 16th and is centered around Town Center Park in Coquitlam.
The 80km route includes a few hill climbs including SFU via Gaglardi Way. Yes, it is a fundraiser for the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation but they would also like to just get higher levels of participation for the event overall. Cost is $35 - there are also routes/distances of 10km and 40km if you have others in your family that would like to participate as well.
I rode in last year's event and it was well organized, well supported through local sponsors and fun! It'd be a nice opportunity to continue to train, ride in an event and ride some hills as well!
I would love to do this but when I went online to check it out I noticed the $250 fundraising minimum. I have raised quite a bit for the RTCC this year and as a result have tapped out all of my donors already and cannot imagine going back to them for another cause at this time. If they allowed last minute signups I'd be happy to pay the $35 entrance fee to go on the 80 km ride. I will definitely keep this in mind for next year. Plus, the 80 km course looks like quite the challenge.

I hear your concern. I've re-checked with the W2H organizers. They've indicated that all registered participants would be allowed to ride regardless of fundraising minimums being met however they do encourage all participants to try and raise the fundraising minimums.
Funds raised will help purchase medical equipment for the hospital (last year it was for new OR tables) so as with R2CC, it's for a good cause.
I agree it is a good cause and as a Coquitlam resident, one that I whole heartedly support. In fact, I am already thinking next year of signing up for this and fundraising for it.
For this year, however, I won't be fundraising although I'd be happy to pay $35 for a chance to go on the ride. Interestingly enough, it just happens to fall on a weekend I had scheduled for myself to do back to back 80+ km rides so it would fit perfectly with my training this year.
