tired feet

Anyone have any advice on how to keep bottom of my feet from going numb. I just bought new bike shoes and i find after about 45mins they become uncomfortable. Maybe it will just take time to break the shoes in?
Thanks in advance for the advice

Hi

I have also had some problems with this. My feet would go numb and stay that way for several hours. I have taken 2 different tactics to resolve this.

I can recommend an excellent physio in North Vancouver, Phillipa Bruce. You can reach her at  http://synergyphysio.ca/ She has been able to make a huge difference for me.

At her recommendation I also went to Obsession Bikes (A RTCC sponsor) and had them do a bike fit. I already thought that I was well fitted on the bike, but the changes they made have almost completely relieved my foot problems.

The longest day I've ridden since this was all done a month ago is 145km and everything went well.

Good Luck!

I agree with Doug with the bike fit, it also could be that the cleats on the your shoes may need to be moved back. That solved my problem. Obsession is great but depending on where you are, south shore cycle in Delta is also great.

I have always had the problem of my forefoot going numb when I ride, or spin class, or just the spin bike. I bought new shoes and the numbness didn't kick in until about 25 min into my ride. I Googled forefoot numbness while riding and saw lots of tips and tricks. One I adopted was inserting my gel arch supports from my running shoes and what a difference! Also, I make sure my straps aren't too tight. Rode 3 hours today and my feet felt great.

Take a look at shoe tightness, arch support to dissipate the pressure on the forefoot and also saddle and cleat position.

Good luck!

What type of pedals/shoes do you have?  If you have Mountain bike clipless or MTB, they will get sore/tired much sooner and aren't designed as well as the other types.  I learned this last year when I started doing longer training rides with my MTB pedals with the SPD clips and when I hit 80KM I would start to get 'hotspots' on the sole of my feet.  I switched to Look platform road pedals and Shimano shoes and it was MUCH better!  I hear the Look or Crank Bros pedals are good as well as others designed for road biking.  Hope this helps.

Hi all!
I have been experimenting with my shoes. I initially had a freak fit when I had forefoot
numbness and subsequently had my cleat fittings moved - I could tell I needed that.
My last ride was 110km and I fixed problems that had been occurring at 14 - 14km! simply by not cranking down my shoes so tight.  This weekend I loosened the top buckle - focussed on wiggling my toes from time to time and I was okay.
Kudo's to Shane at Riders Cycle in Victoria for telling me to keep my orthotics out of the picture!

Shayne rocks!  I have dealt with him before and always liked him.  I hope to give him a major ass kicking on the Monday night rides out of Rider's hope to see you there!  JAmie
